THE MISSION:
Created in response to a Congressional and DoD mandate, the DARPA Grand Challenge is a field test to accelerate research and development in autonomous ground vehicles that will help save American lives on the battlefield.  It is a Challenge we could not refuse, and we are working feverishly to prepare JackBot for this historic contest.

THE TEAM:
Phillip A. Yeager,  Team Leader  -  Phillip Yeager is a computer engineer and successful amateur off-road racer.

As a founding member and a technical team leader with InVision Technologies, Inc., Phillip developed key components of the first FAA-certified airport baggage explosive detection system.  The InVision CTX system is now being widely deployed in airport terminals in the wake of 9-11.   As a consultant for Eaton Controls, Phillip designed and implemented communications software and computer subsystems for the Navy’s new generation of nuclear submarines.  As an engineer with Siemens, Phillip developed image processing and embedded control software for medical imaging systems.  Prior to that, Phillip worked for SAIC where he designed computer subsystems and electronics for prototype instruments.

Highlights of Phillip’s racing career include a second place class championship in the 2002 World Off-Road Championship Series, class runner-up in the 2001 SCORE Desert racing series and a respectable finish in the longest non-stop desert race ever held—the Baja 2000.

When he finds the time, Phillip also practices Business and Technology law near Austin, Texas.   Phillip earned a BSEE degree from Vanderbilt University and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin.   Phillip is also a registered professional engineer.

David B. Mahood - After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, David completed a degree in Nuclear Engineering and 2 years of study in Electrical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University in 1980.    David was employed by SAIC in Santa Clara, California from 1980-2004 as a Staff Engineer.  He was responsible for various aspects of systems electrical design, fabrication, testing, and installations.  He provides 26 years of hands-on experience preparing electronics systems for harsh environments.

David also enjoys participating in amateur off-road motorcycle racing events and openly fantasizes about someday beating the Team Leader.

Other Contributors - When they are not riding motorcycles, John Meskey provides expert mechanical setup and fabrication assistance while Dwaine Funk provides fabrication and Software assistance.

Ray "Mad Mex" Renteria, a software engineer and entrepreneur, joined us from the Patriot Robots Grand Challenge team.  Ray studied computer science at Texas State University and went on to start four technology companies in Austin, TX. His software experience includes database development at Dell and  gaming development at Origin Systems.  Ray now works for Troux Technologies.
